Arch Rock Aloes is a plant propagation program dedicated to rare Aloe species and original hybrids. An extension of Plant Shop 805, Arch Rock Aloes focuses on careful cultivation and long-term collectability.

Arch Rock Aloes created a subscription box to showcase their rad one-of-a-kind plants, grown by hand by plant expert Thomas Baker-Rabe. They wanted a box design that made the customer feel like they have something interesting and rare to show off. The box includes the rare plant and everything needed to pot it up in their collection. The design should feel clean and elevated, and teach customers something new about the aloe species, propagation, or hybridizing.

The final deliverables included the subscription box design (interior and exterior), an editable care card, and a couple of sticker options.

In the concept, I knew I wanted to play off their tagline “rare and unusual” and pull this to the foreground.

The final box is blocked with bold color to catch attention and feel unique and exciting. A hand-drawn aloe plant makes up the interior and exterior of the box, with the interior featuring the hummingbird pulled from their Plant Shop 805 branding. This was intended to be a subtle nod towards the parent brand. The care card was created and exported to Canva as an editable file to use time and time again.

We started with an introductory session as a deep dive into the project. These sessions are crucial in setting a path forward, determining expectations, and understanding what are the goals for the final solution.

Pippa, a co-owner of Arch Rock Aloes, and I have worked together in the past, so I was familiar with their team, shop, and brand. I sent over a questionnaire to get her own voice on what would make this project successful for them. This defined what they were thinking and made sure that we were both on the same page. Moving forward, I created a couple of draft ideas, got their initial feedback, and chose a direction for the design. From here, it was revisions and content building before final deliverables and print-ready files were sent through.

The final solution often ends up being a mix of ideas, from a variety of concepts and discoveries along the way. That’s the beautiful side of process.

Working with Candace Larson and Caretta Caretta has been transformative for our business. Candace took the time to deeply understand who we are, helping us refine and elevate the Plant Shop 805 brand while creating a visual identity that feels authentic, distinctive, and memorable. From our core branding to the development of the Arch Rock Aloes Plant Collectors Club, her work has helped us communicate our vision with clarity, creativity, and confidence.
